Happy 14th Birthday, DJ!! 46 Fish, Austin Fishing Guide Report for Stillhouse, 12 Sep. 2013

This evening I met Sammy M. and his step-son, DJ, on the water for a fishing trip in celebration of DJ’s 14th birthday tomorrow.

Sammy came up with this double for the first (two!!) fish of the day. We literally had his downrigger line in the water less than 40 seconds when these fish hit hard.

Not to be outdone, DJ later boated his own double, catching these two fish on two of the three baits on our umbrella rig.

DJ’s mom, Sandra, gave me a call earlier in the week after seeing a special I’m running online through “Buy Texas Deals”, which is like a local version of Groupon or Living Social. We kicked around a few dates and agreed this date on the eve of DJ’s birthday would be just right.

The wind and weather behaved (after some pretty wild afternoon weather Sat. – Tues.) and we were able to get on fish right away and stay on fish the entire 4 hour trip.

Sammy, who serves on active duty in the U.S. Army in III Corps’ G-5 office, and DJ had mainly been bank fishing around Central Texas and had never enjoyed just a bunch of good luck doing that, so, this very productive trip was a welcome change for both of them.

Over the course of the trip we employed downriggers, used blade baits, and worked slabs, with all 3 techniques paying off in the right conditions.

By the time all was said and done, we’d boated 46 fish. Our catch today consisted of 45 white bass and 1 drum.
