Stillhouse Fishing Guide Report – 01 May 2010 – 17 Fish

I had a morning “SKIFF” trip scheduled this morning with two 2nd grade boys from Harker Heights. When I awoke, the north wind was howling and all of Bell County was under a severe thunderstorm warning through 9am. I called moms, postponed the trip, and caught up on honey-do’s until things calmed a bit in the afternoon.

This 4.50 pound channel cat struck a white jigging spoon and was mixed in with a school of white bass on an open water feature in 27 feet of water.

Start Time: 5:45p

End Time: 8:25p

Air Temp: 77F at trip’s start.

Water Surface Temp: 70F

Wind: Winds were light and NW at ~7.

Skies: Skies were partly cloudy.

As I got on the water this evening, skies had that certain look that they take on after some rough Spring weather passes through. I searched over several different areas this evening but fished only one piece of lake this evening, and that was Area 149. Sonar revealed both some bait and some gamefish, both suspended, but positioned such that they were clearly relating to a small hump in on the bottom.

I went to work with a jigging spoon. Things started off slowly at first, but then fish became more willing to chase a moving spoon, then some fish moved in along the bottom and were much more easily tempted than those at mid-depth. In about 2 hours’ time I boated 15 white bass, some keepers and some short, as well as one keeper black bass and the nice channel cat pictured above.

TALLY = 17 FISH, all caught and released
