Wir haben viele Fische gefangen!! – 103 Fish
CLIENTS: This morning, Tuesday, October 27, I was joined by a father and son team from Leander, Texas. Joining me was Mr. Markus Remark and his 17 year-old son, Ritz (short for Moritz). Markus is originally from Germany near the border with France, and leads an international software company as its COO. Ritz is quite a promising soccer player currently participating in Major League Soccer. He has his sights set on playing professionally for a soccer club in Germany following his graduation from high school.
TODAY’S DATE: 27 October 2026 (AM)
NEXT OPEN MORNING DATES: 28 Oct., 24, 30 Nov., 2-4 Dec. 2026

PHOTO CAPTION: As fall moves into winter, our “bycatch” of species other than our target species (white bass) always increases right into late February. Today, we picked up both a largemouth and a hybrid striped bass on the MAL Dense worked vertically between 25 and 48 feet of water, moving from shallow to deep as the morning progressed.

PHOTO CAPTION: Ritz and his dad, Markus, landed 101 white bass (103 fish total) in right at 4 hours on this wonderful autumn morning.
SUMMARY OF HOW WE FISHED:
The two already had quite a bit of prior fishing experience, both in freshwater and salt, and with fly rods and conventional tackle.
I sent the two of them a link to my tutorial video on the smoking tactic in advance of this trip knowing full well that tactic would account for the lion’s share of the fish we would catch today.
The fish bit well from start to finish with the best action of the morning taking place from about 9:45 through 10:35 AM. We fished two shallow locations in water under 25 feet deep just before, during, and after sunrise, and even caught a few fish using MAL Dense lures with the horizontal sawtooth tactic before this shallow bite shut down as the sun got brighter and the clouds thinned out. By this time, Markus and Ritz had landed 25 fish.
We hit one location on a gently sloping hard bottom in about 34 feet of water and picked up another 13 fish, although they were all small.
From this point on I fished in deeper, clearer, more open water for the remainder of the trip looking for fish just above the thermal break which is found right at about 52 feet deep.
I found fish deeper than I have found them at any point since the spring this morning. We caught 63 fish out of 48 feet of water and experienced the best bite of the morning during this timeframe.
The bite began to wane around 10:40. When that deep water failed to produce any longer, I was able to find one final school to fish for, but, as they often do at the close of the morning feeding window, these fish flared up quickly, but then lost interest just as quickly. Markus and Ritz landed only two more fish at this location, taking our final count to 103 fish landed, including 101 white bass, 1 hybrid striper, and 1 largemouth bass.
RESULTS: 103 fish, all caught and released

OBSERVATIONS:
-This fall’s second significant cold front came in on 16 Oct., dropping overnight lows to 48F with winds 25-40mph all day on 16 Oct. This has put the white bass fishing into overdrive. More fish are now in more places, and all are using bottom once again, thus making locating them much simpler than during the extended summer we just lived through.
