YET ANOTHER MARCH COLD FRONT – 111 Fish @ Belton

WHO I FISHED WITH:  This morning, Tuesday, March 22nd, I fished with Kenny and Tarrah McLaughlin of Gatesville.

After Tarrah set up a trip for her husband (Kenny) and son (Clayton) earlier this year, Kenny had such a good time he wanted to bring Tarrah out to experience white bass fishing for herself.

Although the weather could have been more comfortable, this morning’s weather offered us a great fishing “window”, as the winds shifted from west to north and strengthened as they did so with the arrival of a cool, dry cold front.  This is a great setup for success.

Here is how the fishing went …

______________

My next few openings will be on March 30th and April 4th thru 6th.  Weekday mornings are always best.

PHOTO CAPTION:  Tarrah and Kenny McLaughlin of Gatesville enjoyed a 111-fish catch this morning on Lake Belton as an incoming cold front spurred fish to feed.

WHERE WE FISHED: Lake Belton

WHEN WE FISHED: Monday (AM), 22 March 2021

HOW WE FISHED:

The McLaughlins have 6-year-old daughter who had to get to Kindergarten this morning, so, instead of a normal 7:30 start, we did an 8:45A start to give them time to take care of business.

This gave me some time to do some scouting, which paid off in that I was able to find some fish so that once the McLaughlins arrived, I put them right on fish and Tarrah got right down to business experiencing what Kenny had hoped for her to experience with the fast action of white bass fishing assisted by Garmin LiveScope.

Thanks to the high energy level of the fish this morning, spurred on by the incoming cold front, we fished five areas and experienced similar, solid action at each one, with the 10-11A hour being the best of the morning, with a notable tapering of activity from 11:20A on.

All of our fishing was done in ~35-38 feet of water fishing vertically.

All of our vertical work was done with white, 5/8 oz. Bladed Hazy Eye Slabs using a slow-smoking tactic.

When all was said and done, we caught and released 111 fish, including 2 short hybrid striped bass, 102 white bass, and 5 freshwater drum, and 2 largemouth bass.
